The coroner’s jurisdiction is limited to determining who the deceased was, and how, where and when they came by their death.

 

IDENTIFICATION – Ident card scanned and matched on location. Confirmed CARSON SMITH aged 22, of 2401 Yulan Road, Vermillion 34098, Greenleaf. Secondary identification provided by Cpt. J. Tyrell on scene prior to removal of body.

CAUSE OF DEATH – Catastrophic cervical fracture, with imaging showing dislocation at C5,6 and 7, and a teardrop fracture on both C3 and 4. Only two cervical vertebrae remaining intact.

​

Considerable force would have been required to cause such abnormal movement/trauma, most likely a severe, sudden twist to the neck. Such spinal cord injury would have caused almost instant death once the brainstem was severed.

Some signs of struggle/violence prior to event – bruising to arms, wrist, one broken bone in left hand (4th finger). 

​

Considerable post-mortem  injuries at joints caused by placement in case. Lividity in lower extremities.

​

  TOXICOLOGY: HN-4097 Synthetic Narcotic 3.4 mg/L (Lethal dose 1.5-2.5 mg/L).

​

FORENSIC NOTES: No exogenous DNA retrieved from swabs.

​

NOTE: One substance found beneath fingernails and analysed, awaiting confirmation from second round testing.
